Frank Haberle, Director of Development
Frank joined RTS in 2007 with 20 years experience as a grantwriter and development professional. For the past seven years he served as Director of Development of Community Resource Exchange, a nonprofit management consulting group, raising funds for CRE and providing technical assistance to community groups fighting poverty and AIDS in New York City. From 1992-2000 Frank developed foundation campaigns for settlement houses, youth and human service agencies; and he was the Children’s Aid Society Manager of Foundation and Corporate Giving from 1987-1992. Frank is Board Chair of the NY Writers Coalition, a nonprofit group providing community writing opportunities. He has a BA (1985) from Gettysburg College.
Deb Hartshorn, West Virginia State Director
Deb joined Roads to Success in 2005 as a facilitator and now serves as the West Virginia Director. Deb came to RTS with experience as a college admissions counselor, both international and domestic. Deb’s previous experience includes: teaching disadvantaged youth career exploration and life skills; serving as a counselor for dislocated adult workers; developing and operating an in-school tutoring program and serving as a substitute teacher in Calhoun and Wirt counties.
In addition to Deb’s work in education, she has a background in economic development, having served as the Development Director for the City of Parkersburg, the Executive Director for Parkersburg Main Street, Executive Director Parkersburg YWCA, Industrial Development Representative and Marketing Research Analyst in the Governor’s Office of Community and Economic Development.
Deb is a graduate of Glenville State College with a BS in Business Administration and an AS in Social Service Technology.
Kathy Kinsner, Director of Program Development
Inspired by her second-grade teacher, Kathy Kinsner wanted to be an educator from a very young age. She taught third grade in a rural school in southern Ohio, and was a remedial reading specialist and second-grade teacher in suburban Philadelphia.
A second career in children's television production has taken her to classrooms from Los Angeles, CA, to Concord, NH. She has three Daytime Emmy Awards for her work as a producer on the PBS series Reading Rainbow, and received an NAACP Image Award and Primetime Emmy Nomination for the series' first one-hour special, LeVar Burton Presents: Act Against Violence. She has written/produced TV series and specials for and about children for A&E, The History Channel, and Court TV.
Most recently, she's created curriculum material for middle and high school students, and has written eleven children's books for classroom use. She holds a Master's Degree in Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and a Master's Degree in Television, Radio, and Film from Syracuse University.
She has been a mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program since 2002.
Jillian Kornsweig, Director of Operations/Graphic Designer
Jillian Kornsweig joined Roads to Success in May 2007. Before jumping on board the RTS team, Jillian worked as a research assistant for Britain’s Overseas Development Institute, as well as a project coordinator for the Massachusetts’s chapter of the National Lawyers Guild.
Jillian received her undergraduate degree in Sociology from Boston University and recently studied Graphic Design at Parsons – The New School for Design.
Kimberly Ritter, Director of Training & Instructional Support
Kimberly Ritter began her career in Education as a member of The New York City Teaching Fellows. She worked as a middle school Language Arts teacher in Bushwick, Brooklyn. In addition to her work in the classroom, Kim was the founder and director of her middle school's after school drama club.
Kim worked as a Fellow Advisor for the Teaching Fellows where she mentored newly hired Fellows on what to expect as a teacher in a high needs school environment. As an advisor, she was responsible for teaching a course at Long Island University in Brooklyn on the fundamentals of classroom management, curriculum planning and overall best practices for teachers.
Kim began her tenure at Roads to Success as a Facilitator and Program Developer. She facilitated the Roads to Success curriculum for two years at partner middle school and high school sites in the Bronx. As the Assistant Director of Instructional Support, Kim provides ongoing feedback and support to Facilitators through classroom observations and weekly coaching sessions.
Kim received her undergraduate degree in Theater from Tufts University and has a Masters in the Science of Teaching from Pace University.
Adam Weiss, Executive Director
Adam Weiss is an expert in youth development and student services, with expertise as a CEO, consultant, and nonprofit leader. In 2000, Adam founded and directed Oasis Children’s Services, a company that runs summer programs for children throughout the New York metropolitan area, and served as the company’s Chief Executive until 2007. Adam continues to act as a consultant to the company and as a member of the board. In 2001, Adam founded the Oasis Community Corporation, a not-for-profit organization that applies the Oasis educational philosophy in 18 after-school programs.
Prior to Oasis, Adam served as the Executive Director of the American Camp Association in New York, where he led the design and implementation of a partnership between 100 different summer camps and more than 100 different public schools that enabled over 10,000 inner-city children to attend camp. Adam also has served as Director of Education Initiatives at the Partnership for New York City, where he led Partners for Leadership, a citywide program that gave over three hundred school principals access to professional development opportunities at major corporations. Adam has served as a Consultant to the Office of the Chancellor of the New York City Schools, and designed summer academic enrichment programs at Amherst College and at Stanford University.
Adam has a B.A. from Wesleyan University and a Masters Degree from the Yale School of Management.
