Committed to achievement for all New York City youth, Roads to Success promotes academic, personal, and professional development through out-of-school-time programs built on a philosophy of self-discovery. We create and sustain an environment where young people find their identity, build their independence, and practice generosity in their communities.
Roads to Success is dedicated to helping young people discover the self-esteem, self-reliance, and empathy necessary to become future leaders and driving forces of positive change. We are led by a passionate community of young educators—a lead-by-example staff who are dedicated that all of New York City’s young people are given a fair and equitable chance to fulfill their dreams.
Roads to Success (RTS) formerly known as Oasis Community Corporation was formed to provide on-site, integrated academic and recreational after-school and summer programs for schools, communities and agencies. Founder Adam Weiss had been a leader in developing and delivering similar educational programs in the not-for-profit, public, and private sectors, and had created Oasis to take advantage of the rapidly growing demand for these services.
For schools, communities and agencies faced with the challenge of providing meaningful after-school and summer experiences for children, Oasis designed and delivered customized programs that transformed schools or public spaces into vibrant community resources for children and families. Integrating academics with arts and recreation, Oasis provided after-school and summer programming ranging from remedial academics to challenging enrichment programs.
In 2004 Roads to Success was launched in New York City by Andrew J. McKelvey, the former CEO and Chairman of Monster Worldwide, to fulfill his vision of giving middle and high school students the tools they need to achieve success. The Roads to Success College Access and Career Development Curriculum is the product of several years of extensive research, field testing and frequent revision to determine what students need to know to discover meaningful employment and plan for the education they will need to achieve their goals. The RTS curriculum is designed to be easily installed within any educational setting and engage students in topics that are often neglected in schools: career exploration, education planning, critical thinking, and financial literacy.
In 2009 Oasis Community Corporation and Roads to Success merged—joining the two organizations' missions. Today RTS creates programming for NYC’s youth, focusing on economically depressed communities, where youth are rarely aware of the wide array of careers available to them and have little sense of the connections between school and a rewarding adult life. RTS helps youth identify their passion(s), develop plans for the future, become a positive member of their communities and acquire critical skills to better facilitate the transition from youth to adulthood.
