Celebrating Earth Day with Purpose and Creativity

April 25, 2025

On April 25, 2025, Roads to Success(RTS) afterschool programs at RSA and MS 206 came alive with color, creativity, and community as students celebrated Earth Day through a dynamic blend of learning and hands-on engagement.

From recycled art to plant-based culinary delights, the event brought sustainability to life in fun and meaningful ways. Renowned eco-conscious designer Jian Hui led an interactive jewelry-making workshop where students transformed recycled materials into striking, wearable art, showing that sustainability can be both stylish and smart.

Chef Brandy introduced students to the flavors and benefits of plant-based eating with a make-your-own vegan wrap session, offering fresh vegetables and hummus while teaching the value of conscious food choices.

Adding a layer of inspiration, Dr. Skylar Walkes, Director of Roots and Wingz, served as guest host, sharing words of encouragement and gifting students with educational tools to support their academic growth.

The event captured the essence of Earth Day, celebrating the planet while empowering the next generation to be thoughtful stewards of its future.

“At RTS, Earth Day is more than a celebration—it’s a moment to ignite young minds with the possibility of change. Our students are learning that small actions can spark big impact,” said Sheila Duke, CEO of Roads to Success.

As always, the heart of RTS lies in creating moments that matter for students, for communities, and for our shared future.
