Roads to Success (RTS) is proud to announce the launch of its comprehensive Digital Literacy Program across East Harlem, supported by AT&T. This innovative initiative marks a major step in empowering elementary and middle school students with the digital skills they need to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Serving over 100 students, the program bridges the digital divide by combining technical learning with personal growth. Through a dynamic curriculum, young participants will gain critical 21st-century skills, from digital basics, keyboarding, and safe internet navigation, to introductory coding, digital media production, and fostering positive online communication.
The new program was introduced on October 23rd during the Lights On Afterschool celebration at Amber East Harlem (220 East 106th Street). The event showcased the vibrancy of afterschool programming, with students participating in activities such as digital literacy sessions, culinary arts, dance performances, art exhibits, and poetry recitations, all celebrating youth creativity and achievement.

“It is especially fitting during National Lights On Afterschool to announce our inaugural Digital Literacy Program across our East Harlem sites with support from AT&T,” said Sheila Duke, CEO, Roads to Success. “This program is a vital investment in the future of East Harlem’s youth, engaging them in productive out-of-school time and equipping our young community members with the technical skills and critical mindsets needed to safely and confidently navigate a digital-first world.”
Through the support of AT&T, RTS is advancing its mission to create equitable access to technology and learning opportunities.
“At AT&T, we’re dedicated to helping ensure that every community can thrive in the digital age,” says John Emra, President – AT&T Atlantic Region. “Access to digital education is vital so that kids can take full advantage of technology, put their imaginations to work and achieve their goals. Our investment in the digital literacy programming at Roads to Success directly reflects our commitment to get more New York kids connected. We’re grateful for the opportunity to support these students, and for the important work done by Roads to Success.”
The RTS Digital Literacy Program will leverage trusted educational platforms such as Digital Learn, Common Sense Education, The Achievery, Khan Academy, and Scratch. The curriculum will continually evolve to include AI-enhanced tools, gamified learning, and project-based instruction, ensuring it stays relevant and engaging.
Recognizing that true digital fluency goes hand-in-hand with emotional intelligence, RTS integrates Social Emotional Learning (SEL) across the curriculum. By developing skills such as self-management, empathy, and responsible decision-making, students build not only technical ability but also the emotional resilience needed to thrive in school and beyond.
AT&T is committed to bridging the digital divide by providing people of all ages and communities with the tools to succeed in the digital era. Since 2021, AT&T has committed $5 billion to programs that expand connectivity, promote digital literacy, and improve access to high-speed internet—especially in underserved communities.
